It
all begins with the main character Shurato Hidaka and his
childhood friend Gai Kuroki competing in a junior tournament
of martial arts. After winning several bouts, the two find
themselves competing against one another in the finals. In
the middle their bout a huge beam of light crashes down upon
them from the heavens. Shurato and Gai are transports to a
plane of existence known as Tenkûkai, the heavenly sphere
and world of the Deva and Asura warriors.
Shurato
and Gai are reincarnated Deva warriors. Vishnu, the Goddess
of Harmony, summoned the two young men to aid her in a battle
against the Asura clan who have plotted to destroy Tenkûkai.
It was their destiny to return to Tenkûkai and protect
the people and maintain peace and harmony.
Upon
their arrival to Tenkûkai, Shurato and Gai were separated.
A young girl named Lakshu finds Shurato lying in a open field.
He is woken by a kiss and begins to ask her a list of questions.
A small golden figure of a lion strapped to his belt catches
Lakshus attention. She asked if he is a member of the
Hachibushu Deva clan, but Shurato doesnt have any idea
what shes talking about.
Moments
later, Gai appears on a hilltop fully armored. Happy to see
his best friend, Shurato runs to meet up with him. Without
hesitation Gai attacks Shurato in a malicious attempt to kill
him. Confused and worried about his friend, Shurato struggles
to fight against Gai. Later Shurato and Lakshu are saved by
Reiga, the Phoenix warrior and taken to Tenkûden (Vishnus
palace) to see Vishnu. There Shurato discovers that he and
Gai are members of the Deva clan, also known as the Hachibushu
(eight warriors). The golden lion he carries is referred to
as his Shakti (armor).

Later,
General Indrah of the Deva clan betrays Vishnu and casts a
spell to turn her into stone. Hyûga, the most loyal
and dedicated Deva warrior, senses a problem from within Vishnus
throne room and rushes to investigate. Hyûga finds the
Goddess of Harmony covered in stone and also finds Indrah
at the scene. Hyûga asks what has happened but no answer
was given. The General attacks Hyûga to prevent him
from discovering the truth.
Meanwhile,
Gai approaches Shurato and attempts to kill him once more.
Shurato tries valiantly to stop Gai from fighting, but Gai
cares nothing for him. His intension is clearly set on killing
Shurato. Focused on staying alive, Shurato finds himself in
Vishnus throne room where Hyûga and Indrah are
battling. Moments later Shurato and Hyûga are saved
by Vishnu. The Goddess of Harmony sacrificed her remaining
strength to teleport the two far from Tenkûden.
Back
at Tenkûden, Indrah frames Shurato and Hyûga.
The General tells the people of Tenkûkai that Shurato
and Hyûga are responsible for Vishnus condition.
To make matters worst Indrah announces that Gai will be taking
command of the Deva clan. This deception turns the whole Deva
clan against Shurato and Hyûga, and a man hunt for their
heads began.
From
there the story unfolds. Shurato and his group must revive
Vishnu and save Tenkûkai before the Asura clan begin
their invasion. - Jeff Anglea
